We are pleased to announce that Dr. Martha Dawson, a founding member of AL-HAC, will be the 2017 AONE Prism Award Winner. Congratulations to Dr. Dawson for this prestigious award! We are so proud of her and her dedication to the field of healthcare.
AL-HAC was proud to help nominate Dr. Dawson for her extensive contribution to diversity and inclusivity. Since joining AL-HAC, Dr. Dawson has worked with other members to bring diverse individuals to the Steering Committee, spearheaded the development of the first Hispanic Nursing Association in the State of Alabama, served as Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee, recruited donors, and served as the lead grant-writer and Co-PI of two awarded RWJF State Implementation Grants. Her work to create a more diverse nursing population is representative of the people we serve, and it extends across the boundaries of practice, research, academia, service, and leadership.
The AONE Prism Award will be presented at the AONE Annual Meeting in Baltimore on Friday, March 31st. The award recognizes a nurse leader who has advanced diversity efforts within the nursing profession, such as Dr. Dawson. The Prism Award Winner is a leader in his/her organization in supporting the AONE Guiding Principles for Diversity in Health Care Organizations and demonstrates the mastery of the AONE Nurse Executive Competencies – Communication and Relationship Building, Diversity.
AONE is committed to the support of achieving diversity within the community of nurse leaders and in the workplace environment. AONE believes diversity is one of the essential building blocks of a healthful practice/work environment.
